Queer Weddings
are just weddings when you’re a queer photographer, living in the twin cities.
A quick rant paired with a glimpse into Sydney and Kanoro’s Wedding day at Como Conservatory
If you’re a queer couple, it’s likely you will want wedding vendors that are aligned with you and your values. Finding a photographer who won’t pose you as friends, who will value your love and connection, and will make you feel comfortable on your wedding day is essential. For those getting married in Minneapolis or St. Paul, that won’t be a problem. There’s a ton of us queer photographers and wedding vendors here. I feel for the couples who are elsewhere and do not get to be in this gay bubble. It should be the bare minimum that you don’t have to deal with micro aggressions or homophobia on your big day. I wish every city celebrated love like ours does.
I love that I get to work with folks who are in my community and I LOVE that I can witness them, in their true form, marrying the loves of their lives. I’m so fortunate to work with (almost exclusively queer) clients to the point where I’m never talking about photographing “a gay wedding” but rather, if I’m mentioning it at all, I’m differentiating a “straight wedding”.
The After Party was at Black Hart, a popular lesbian bar in the metro. I love that we can safely exist and thrive in this city. I am heartbroken about the hardships folks are experiencing in Kansas and the greater south. Come to Minnesota, we will love you unconditionally here!
