That I hope are here to stay!
When it comes to your wedding, I say ditch the traditions that don’t serve you, make up some of your own, and design your wedding to be as personal and as centered around your love as you want! I’m a bit sentimental, love to save a dollar, and come from an intentional community background. So when I see the couples decorate their party with DIY personal touches and their loved ones rally around them and contribute to the day, I think it brings an extra kind of magic.
If you get one wedding, make it perfect for you. You get to do whatever you want, there’s no rules! Here are a few ideas that may inspire some personal touches for your big day.
Invite your guests grow your flowers!
I think working with a florist for your wedding, especially for the bouquet and boutonnieres can really take a ton of stress off your plate and they are guaranteed to be beautiful. AND I think, you can’t have too many flowers. This couple sent out seeds with their invites and invited guests to grow flowers and bring them to the wedding. Not all of them worked out but there were a good amount that were grown, specifically with love and intentions for this couple. And how sweet is that?!
Thrifted Glassware
Not everything needs to match perfectly and these thrifted candle holders, glassware, and vases created such a cozy vibe. Plus, you can save a few bucks and reduce waste by reusing what’s already out there.
They make great party favors if you’d rather not hang onto them, too!
Bring on the Sentiment
The groom wrote this note to the bride (on a napkin) during their relationship and they had it printed on all of the napkins for their wedding. Everyone was touched by it. Giving your guests little windows into the love you share will only make us more excited for you!
Have a Theme!
This wedding’s theme was Garden Granny Disco Party and the guests did not disappoint! Everyone looked cohesive and it was so fun to get to dress up and see everyone’s fits.
Stick and Poke Tattoo Artist
What more is there to say?! You can have custom flash and your guests remember this night forever.
Live Music!
Let’s bring back the wedding singers! The energy that they can bring into a room is so hard to match. If you want your guests to dance, please have a pro to transition songs. A playlist won’t cut it, I’m sorry to tell ya. Do some of your friends play in bands? Do you have a friend who can DJ for the late night party? Of course, pay your entertainers, but consider all of your options. You might have someone in your network who can bring the tunes and best vibes. Which brings me to the next bit… including your community in your big day.
Bring in Your Community!
It’s not too much to ask your people to help out. Weather it’s a small thing like grabbing their chair or moving a table or big things like officiating or making your cake, contributions from your loved ones makes it feel like an event everyone is a part of. Maybe this is a hot take but in my experience, folks love a job and to contribute to your day being a success. Don’t be afraid to delegate!
Embrace the Mess
You can’t control the weather but you can control your attitude. Some things won’t go as planned and that’s okay! Everyone is there to celebrate you and your love, and if you’re stressin, you’ll miss out on all of that magic! Just lean in and have a great time. You’ve spent months, if not years planning for this party. Just let it happen as it does!
